Engine and Drivetrain

3/12/2008:

Well, thanks to Mitch Rowland, I took delivery of my 2F, 4-sp w/ split transfer (out of an ‘82FJ40) and axles (FJ62) today. Wow, that engine is a monster. It’s the first time I’ve seen a 2F outside of a vehicle (my 40 came engineless). I bought these from Gary Schmauch, the master gatherer of Land Cruiser parts. Thank you both!

I’ll be cleaning everything up before putting it back together. The front axle will stripped for a cut and turn and I’ll rebuild the ends. Might as well do everything while it’s easy to get to. I’m also sandblasting everything I can remove and take to work. Might as repaint the engine too, along with replacing the head gasket and header gasket. I’ll POR15 the axles once everything is said and done. Lots to do, but I’m in no rush. It keeps me off the couch.

Took the header off for sandblasting and a few coats of hi-temp coating from Eastwood. Should last a few months... (that’s how long it’ll be before I get the engine put back in...lol)
I don’t expect it to last more that a few minutes, in all honesty, once the engine gets up to temperature. At least it looks good for now.
