Component Sandblasting

2/02/2008
Today I got started cleaning up some of the parts I’ve been removing during the teardown. I wanted to get them done before I continue with other jobs.

One of the perks of my job is the use of the sandblaster and paint booth. Here is the sandblaster:

I did these earlier in the week just to see how well the sandblaster would work.

Here are the items I blasted today (before):

Here’s what they look like after blasting:

....and here’s after priming:

Here’s the primer I used:

This self-etching primer is great. I was surprised. I had a part that I messed up on and put it back in the sandblaster. It was a real pain to get off. I have access to bulk self-etching primers at work, but for these small parts, cleanup is easier with spray cans.
I wrapped all the finished parts and put them on the shelf till it’s time for final paint and install. I still have a bunch of small parts to work on, but I have time.

The battery tray looks pretty rough, but it’s a battery tray. I’ll be painting it with undercoating later on. I still haven’t chosen a final color for the Cruiser yet, but I’m leaning towards Mustard Yellow or a Coronado Beige. We’ll see.
That’s it for today.
