What do you do when your only ham shack is a mobile shack?
Answer: Whatever you have to....
The mount is made from 2"x2"x1/4" square steel tubing. It extends out 18" from the hitch and up 4 ft bringing it to rooftop level. For driving, the antenna is bent over the roof using a short lanyard.
It tunes (and works) 80 thru 6 in both the stowed and vertical positions.
The following pictures are from the fit, form and function testing I did today. There won't be any exposed feed lines in the finished product and the mounting bracket for the antenna will be welded to the mast in leiu of the clamps that are seen in the photos. I'll make it as secure from theft as possible in the finished design
The Radio Shack whip is attached with a quick disconnect and the whole assembly can be disconnected and stowed in the back of the jeep in under a minute.
